Eschia is committed to showcasing the diversity of Aboriginals across Canada, highlighting their deep history and fostering pride among the community at large.

The company was created to satisfy a need for accessible books about the Aboriginal people of Canada. Their history, culture and far-reaching achievements are exceptional subjects for interesting and inspiring stories. Eschia produces books that appeal to a general population as well as to Native youth. Future plans also include publishing educational material for those interested in Native people and making engaging reading material available to reluctant readers among Native youth.

Eschia Books is already providing a venue for Aboriginal writers to share their unique stories and experiences. We want to be a support and resource for these authors, as we understand the need for culturally relevant publications told from a whole new perspective. Cross-cultural awareness is paramount, as we hope our endeavours will bridge a gap between groups that have lived so close and yet so far from each other for so long.

While First Nations traditionally have shared their stories orally, we believe these stories need to be written down so that they are not lost to future generations and so that those outside the Native community have an opportunity to understand the culture and tradition as well as the challenges still facing First Nations.

Our mission is to recount stories of interest to Aboriginal readers and the general public that celebrate the aspirations, successes and accomplishments of Aboriginal people across Canada. Eschia Books will produce engaging, high quality and affordable books that are eminently accessible. We will give voice to the experience of being an Aboriginal in Canada, whether it is in a professional sports arena, in a 19th-century Canadian Métis community, or in a fictional novel.

In each of our titles, we will celebrate the aspirations, successes and accomplishments of our country’s Native people, and we are sure that the broader community of Canadian readers will embrace our undertaking as we have.
